Watch a firm’s Consumer Duty quarter in DutyDesk

A small advice firm keeps its vulnerable customer register, assesses fair value, tracks its outcome measures and drafts its quarterly board report — then a second person reviews and approves it.

Recorded in DutyDesk itself, with a fictional firm, Larkbrook Wealth Ltd. The AI drafting is the real model; the on-screen clock shows how long it took.

0:00 What the FCA has said

The FCA says an absence of complaints should not be relied on alone as evidence of good outcomes.

In April, writing about board reports, it said some firms “presented extensive data without sufficiently explaining how it demonstrated good or poor outcomes”.

0:24 The dashboard

DutyDesk keeps your Consumer Duty evidence in one place, and drafts your board report from it, for you to approve.

The dashboard shows where you stand, what needs your attention this week, and who changed what.

On screen: For UK advice firms with 1–15 advisers.

On screen: The firm in the video, Larkbrook Wealth Ltd, is fictional.

0:40 Vulnerable customer register

Your register records all four drivers, severity and review dates. An overdue review stands out.

Record today’s review, and the next one is diarised for six months’ time.

If the FCA asks for your register: two clicks, one PDF.

On screen: The register exports as a PDF or a CSV.

1:02 Fair-value assessments

Each fair-value assessment has six sections. Write one yourself, or jot down the facts and DutyDesk drafts it for you to review.

Each draft shows its sources and checks its figures against your inputs. Add one that isn’t there, and it asks you to check.

On screen: A figure typed into the draft that is not in the notes, “£142”, is flagged as not in the inputs until it is removed.

1:22 Two-person sign-off

With two or more of you, a second person always signs off. Here your paraplanner drafted it; you read it, then approve.

On screen: The drafter’s view of the assessment reads “Awaiting review by another user. The drafter cannot self-approve.”

1:32 Outcome monitoring

Outcome monitoring starts with ten ready-made measures across the four outcomes, plus your own. Each says whether it’s on target.

Log a reading each month, with a note on why it moved, so the figure carries its explanation.

1:49 The board report

Then the board report, yearly or quarterly: an executive summary, a section for each outcome, then vulnerable customers, distribution, governance and looking forward.

Each section can be drafted from your register, assessments, measures and notes for the period. The same checks run, and the result stays with the section.

Change any word. Each section says whether it was AI-drafted, edited by hand, or written by your firm.

DutyDesk drafts. You review it, you own it, you approve it.

On screen: A real-time clock beside the editor: the executive summary is drafted in 11 seconds, and the wait is shown sped up.

2:31 Review, approval and export

Your paraplanner submits it. You read it, confirm anything the checks raised, and approve. That’s all recorded, and the report is locked.

Export it to PDF or Word, with who drafted, reviewed and approved it on the cover.

2:49 Audit trail and your data

Every change goes in the audit log. On Practice and above, your compliance consultant can have a read-only login, and everything is yours to export.

Your records are stored in the EU, in Ireland, apart from every other firm’s. Drafting uses register counts, not names.

On screen: Two-step sign-in with an authenticator app.
